Throughout the game players are treated to a combination of Japanese-style blues, pop, techno and rock. Similarly, the game's audio is phenomenal. Raising the Personas through traditional RPG experience accumulation or P3:FES' Fusion system is only slightly less addictive than the latter. These mythologically inspired creatures are equal parts Final-Fantasy-style summon (minus that series' redundant, melodramatic animations) and Pokémon-style pet (sans annoying cuteness). Combat is turn-based, and players have the option of using physical attacks or casting spells using the innate powers of their Personas. As in real life, there's never enough time to do everything you'd like, so balancing your love life, extracurricular activities and studies is a compelling puzzle.Īt night, the game takes a page from dungeon crawlers like Diablo. During the day, it mirrors a traditional Japanese dating simulation, complete with myriad hyper-cute teen girls to woo and stressful mid-term exams. Gameplay in P3:FES is a combination of traditional gameplay styles that go together in a surprisingly entertaining way.
